PlayStation Mobile, formerly PlayStation Suite, is now available on the Vita. For the uninitiated, the platform provides PlayStation Certified titles for Vita and Android. What this means for Vita in particular is that small, indie, mobile phone styled games can be downloaded inexpensively.
Perhaps the premiere title for the Vita’s PlayStation Mobile launch is Vlambeer’s Super Crate Box, a brilliant arcade style score attack action game, for $3.49. The price is higher than the $.99 iOS cost, but as someone who owns both, the additional two bucks or so is well worth the premium to play with buttons.
A handful of other PlayStation Mobile titles are also available; one I found super fun is Rebel from Pom Pom Software. As an unarmed POW behind enemy lines, you must weave between enemy fire, drawing their shots so they destroy each other, meanwhile collecting gems to buy new powerups and modes. For $1.99, it’s a terrific little score attack game.
If the initial offerings and price points are any indication, PlayStation Mobile could be something special for the Vita. Here’s hoping it does well.
